Curt is currently
on the teaching staff at The Jazzschool in Berkeley California where
he teaches many students the art of drum set drumming in class
settings, a well as private lessons. He has participated in clinic
settings as performer and educator, and as a festival adjudicator
all over California and the United States. From 1979 to 1983 he was
on the teaching staff of the 6 time world champion Santa Clara
Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. He received his B.A. from San Jose
State University where he studied with Anthony Cirone in classical
percussion and graduated with an emphasis in jazz performance.
Curt has over 100
recordings to his credit and has shared the recording studio stage
with a wide variety of artists. Some of these include: Francisco
Aguabella, Count Baise Orchestra, Chuck Berry, Ray Brown, Joyce
Cooling, John Clayton, Richard Davis, Ian Dogole, The Different
Drums, Pete Escovedo, Bruce Forman, Lola Falana, Vic Firth, Mimi
Fox, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Heath, Jackie and Roy, Andy Narell, Patrick
Palomo, Bernadette Peters, Rufus Reed, Francios Rabatth, San Jose
Jazz Orchestra, Turtle Island String Quartet, The Zone, Wild Mango.
Curt’s abilities in all music styles provide an impecable backbone
for all types of bands from Big Bands to Rock, Pop, Fusion, Latin
Jazz and Jazz Trios.

Michael Spiro - World Percussion

Michael Spiro is an
internationally recognized percussionist, recording artist, and
educator, known specifically for his work in the Latin music field.
He has performed on thousands of records, co-produced and played on
several instructional videos for Warner Bros. Publications
(including Talking Drums, Changuito, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Ignacio
Berroa), and produced seminal recordings in the Latin music genre,
including Orquesta Batachanga, Grupo Bata-Ketu, Mark Levine and the
Latin Tinge, and Grupo Ilu-Aña.
He currently resides in San Francisco, California
where he is an integral part of the Bay Area music scene. He records
and produces with groups throughout the West Coast, and still tours
world-wide with the percussion trio "Talking Drums," which he
co-leads with David Garibaldi and Jesus Diaz. In June of 1996, his
own recording Bata-Ketu was released on Bembe Records to
international critical acclaim, including being voted one of the top
50 drum records of all time by Drum Magazine. He debuted that
material on the stage in 2002 with a performance grant from the
National Endowment for the Arts, and in that same year he performed
with his own group "Ara Meji" at the Monterey Jazz Festival, where
he received the Distinguished Achievement Award in Percussion. In
2004 he received a Grammy nomination for his work as both producer
and artist on Mark Levine’s Latin/Jazz release "Isla". This year he
released his most recent recording "BataMbira", which is already
receiving rave reviews, and he was voted runner up in the
jazz/fusion category in Drum Magazine's Reader's Poll Awards.

Tom Rarick - Front Ensemble

Tom Rarick is a percussionist in the United States Air Force Band,
Bolling AFB Washington, DC. He holds a BA in percussion performance
from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied under Dr.
Gary Olmstead and Dr. Jack Stamp.Tom is
working with the 2008 Bluecoats for his eighth season, the fifth as
the front ensemble coordinator/arranger. Prior to his involvement
with the Bluecoats, he was a marching and staff member with the
Cadets of Bergen County.

Dr. Thomas Burritt - Marimba

Thomas Burritt received degrees from Ithaca College
School of Music (BM – Education and Performance), Kent State
University (MM), and Northwestern University (DMA). Active in the
performance of new music for percussion Burritt has built a
reputation in chamber music, as a percussion soloist and a concert
marimbist. He has performed regularly at the Leigh Howard Stevens
International Marimba Seminar and most recently was a featured
faculty performer at the 2007 Zeltsman Marimba Festival. In April
2004 Burritt performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as
member of the Hammers and Sticks Ensemble. Later the same year the
Hammers and Sticks Ensemble released a CD on the Innova label
featuring works by Steven Mackey, Zhou Long, Alvin Singleton, Alex
Shapiro, Joseph Harchanko and Belinda Reynolds. As Percussion
Soloist Burritt has been active performing percussion concertos by
Steve Mackey, Joseph Schwantner, Michael Dougherty, David Maslanka
and James MacMillan. Burritt has recorded for guitarist Eric Johnson
and recording artist David Byrne. Burritt's first solo CD recording:
"All Times Identical - New American Music for Marimba" was released
in November 2006 and is available at GoFishmusic.com. He is
currently Associate Professor of Percussion and Director of
Percussion Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and is a
clinician for LLC/Malletech Instruments, Malletech Mallets and

Frank Oddis - FUNdamentals

Frank Oddis, Associate Professor of Music, has served
as coordinator of the Morehead State University Percussion Program
since 1977. Professor Oddis holds a Master of Music Performance
degree from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Music
Education degree from Morehead State University. Professor Oddis
performs with the Faculty Jazz Quartet at MSU, including their
recently released compact disc recording Blue Duck Suit. He
has worked as a freelance percussionist and drummer for many
well-known celebrities and jazz artists, the national touring
companies of A Chorus Line and Annie, and 20 annual performances for
the Lexington Singers Pops Concerts. Additionally, Professor Oddis
performs as a percussionist with the West Virginia Symphony
Orchestra and as a drumset artist for their annual Pops Series.

John Willmarth - FUNdamentals

John Willmarth is
an active performer, composer, author, and educator in the central
Kentucky area. A versatile percussionist, Willmarth is
experienced in many areas of percussion including jazz, concert,
marching and world percussion.
A multi-faceted educator, Willmarth works with musicians that range from beginners to advanced university students. At Jesse Clark and Edythe J. Hayes Middle Schools he tutors young percussionists. He serves as Director of Percussion and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Lafayette High School. At the University of Kentucky, he is an adjunct faculty member specializing in drumset studies. In addition, Willmarth maintains a private teaching studio at the Don Wilson Music Company in Lexington. As a percussion consultant and clinician, he has worked with high schools across the Midwest as well as for Bands of America, the Yamaha Corporation of America and the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts.
